This Spotted Sea Trout, or Speckled Trout hit a small fake shrimp lure. He’s only about 12 inches, and was thrown back.
I haven’t tried eating a Sea Trout, but they have to be between 15″ and 20″ to keep. The smaller ones like shrimp, but the larger ones will eat Mullet, so I’ll try that next.
As the canal water cools in the fall, the Speckled Trout can be seen jumping along a straight line. They love an active lure that looks like a shrimp. I vary the speed when reeling it in. But these guys are quick, and they seem to like fast moving bait, then hit it when it sinks down a bit, during a break in the reeling.
